Five Tips to Film a Better Shashot

Published June 16, 2026 · UnderparLab Team

Good results start with good footage. Shashot's AI can trace almost any video, but following these five tips makes the output noticeably cleaner.

1. Position — film from behind the player

Pointing the camera in the direction the ball flies gives the trajectory real depth. Filming from the front or the side reduces the ball to a single point that quickly leaves the frame. About 2–3 m behind the player, at the same height, is a safe default.

2. Framing — keep the ball and impact in shot

The moment of impact and the first one or two meters of flight matter most. Zoom in too much and the ball exits the frame right after impact; zoom out too much and the ball becomes too small to detect.

3. Lighting — avoid harsh backlight

The ball is white, so strong backlight washes out the color signal. Whenever possible, position yourself so the sun is behind the camera. Overcast days actually tend to produce some of the best results.

4. Frame rate — prefer 60 fps or higher

Higher frame rates keep the ball's per-frame travel small, which preserves continuity. Slow-motion is even better, but watch the trade-off with clip length and storage.

5. Background — simpler is better

A clean sky-heavy background is easiest to track. Crowds, signs, and dense trees muddy the color and shape cues and reduce accuracy.

These five habits become second nature quickly. A single take is enough to get a great result, and when these conditions line up, you rarely need to touch the trajectory by hand — perfect for sharing on the spot during a round.
